racted from coconut meat and is one of the world’s richest sources of saturated fat. However, coconut fat is unique because it is made almost entirely of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). MCTs are metabolized differently than the long-chain fatty acids found in most other foods and have many potential health benefits. Coconut oil benefits and uses go beyond what most people realize. According to medical research and the USDA nutrient database, coconut oil benefits the body in the following ways:

  1. PROMOTE HAIR GROWTH

Coconut oil is becoming a popular remedy for hair loss and a helpful ingredient for hair regrowth. A hot coconut oil treatment before a shampoo is excellent to nourish and fortify your hair. Put a few drops of coconut oil into your shampoo. One study showed that coconut oil increases hair count for men with hair loss by 40 percent. You should put on the old T-shirt to prevent staining your good clothes. Apply coconut oil on your hair, using the comb to ensure even coverage. It doesn’t need to be soaked, but all your hair should be moist with the oil. Leave the oil for at least two hours so it can penetrate the scalp, hair follicles, and hair shaft. After two hours, wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner.

  1. HOMEMADE NATURAL MASCARA

All girls wish to have longer and fuller eyelashes, don’t they? The perfect and natural eyelashes are one that is clearly defined, dark and striking but not coated or glued up with thick layers of mascara. While there are some great cosmetic products out there, one of the best home remedies to help your eyelashes grow thick, strong and beautiful is coconut oil. Coconut contains many healthy properties such as natural fatty acids, which is beneficial for cell growth in the human body, therefore applying it to your eyelashes helps new ones to grow. Regular and long-term use of coconut oil comes with more lash benefits, helping to replenish them with much-needed hydration and lash-boosting nutrition, which ultimately help lashes last longer before falling off or breaking.

  1. REDUCE ECZEMA

Eczema is a skin condition where red, itchy and scaly rashes appear on the skin. People with asthma and other allergies are more prone to it. Coconut oil is an excellent skin moisturizer that does a lot more than just provide a barrier. It absorbs into the skin tissue, where it works as an emollient. The oily texture softens the dry, brittle skin characteristic of eczema, preventing skin breakups that invite opportunistic bacteria. In addition, coconut oil is absorbed into the skin layers easily because of the fatty acids that make up the oil. All vegetable oils and animal fats consist of smaller components called fatty acids, but coconut oil mainly contains medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) or medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs).

  1. PREVENT GUM DISEASE AND TOOTH DECAY

The main cause of gum disease is the buildup of dental plaque due to harmful bacteria in the mouth. According to a study, oil pulling with coconut oil significantly decreased plaque buildup and signs of gingivitis in 60 participants with plaque-induced gum disease. All you need is putting a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth. Swish the oil around for 15–20 minutes, pushing and pulling it between teeth. Spit out the oil (into the trash or toilet, since it can clog sink pipes). Finally, brush your teeth with toothpaste as usual. The fatty acids in the oil attract and trap bacteria so each time you oil pull, you are removing harmful bacteria and plaque from your mouth. It’s best to do this right away in the morning before you eat or drink anything.

  1. IMPROVE STRETCH SCARS

Coconut oil is one of the best oil to remove all those terrible stretch skin after pregnancy. The coconut oil not only contains beneficial fatty acids but it also a great source of Vitamins E and K that works wonder for various skin problems including stretch marks. You can also use coconut oil heat treatment for unwanted stretch marks and make them fade away fast. Rub some coconut oil on the area and gently massage for about 10 minutes. Wrap the area using a cloth, preferably cotton. Using a hot water bottle, apply some heat to the area for a couple of minutes on a daily basis.
